Green Day

Ko te Ratu 18 o te poutu-te-rangi o tenei ra.
Donegals, Tipperary's, Emeralds, Shamrocks, Limericks and the leprechauns.
‘Happy St Patricks Day everyone’.

The special day started off with a Mass. During mass one child from each class took a green painted hat, that had virtuous words that described Saint Patrick. After Mass, it was time for the short interval. Following this  the school made their way to the front of room 4 and 5. Then each student was put into one of 5 different groups. Darrelle, Natalia, Agnes, Soana, John, Dehnyse, Carlos and Myself were the leaders of each group. The names of the groups were the shamrocks, donegals, leprechauns, limericks and the emeralds. The reason for the teams were so the younger students have senior people to guide them to do the right thing. All of the groups were named after Irish things.

As the Donegals walked into room 8, our group seated ourselves down into a chair in front of a desk that had tray with a face that had goggle eyes, a cloud of orange hair, strips of  green paper,  dark green strip of green papers, Popsicle sticks,  gold squares, shamrock papers, plates of glitter and pva glue. The activity was to make leprechaun bookmarks. First of all we had to color in the top of the drawn on pencil line with the green vivid, then we had to fold over the Popsicle stick, and then we added a dark green strip under the light green strip, then we all added the strips of paper, the next thing to do was to add the face with google eyes but before that we put the cloud of hair behind the head. Then we added a gold buckle on top of the strips and then under the leprechauns face we stuck on two cardboard shamrocks. And for the final touch up was a pinch of glitter. When everyone finished their bookmarks Jordi, Destiny and I helped Mrs Dines distribute more things into the trays for the next groups to use.

Our next stop was room 1 which was bowling. This time is was girls against boys. All the girls were sure that we would win the competition. And so it was the girls challenging the boys. Cheering, screaming, clapping all of us on our knees thinking of the right time to bowl the ball. Each player had the same amount of turns to come up and try and bowl the bowling pins over. We all had 4 turns then the bell rang and then Ms Craig called out the total of the points. “16, 21, 32 to the boys”, said Ms Craig, and “ 21, 28, 34, 36 to the girls, said Ms Craig. It was official that the girls had won.

Then we made our way to room 2 which was to create a shamrock that has virtuous words over the shamrock and to conclude to making our masterpiece we stuck on a straw so that we could hold it.

After we completed all activities we all gathered together in the front of room 4,5 and 6. Ms Bullot announced the points, and in first place was ....... donegals!!!!! I stood up and shouted from the top of my lungs. “We won” I said. I ran to my team and gave them all a hi 5. I was as proud as ever. Being the leader of a team felt really good. After that long day we all received a ice block.
